Cross Country Course FAQs
How do I book the course for hire? Use our custom design booking form on our website! https://northayrshireridingclub.co.uk But we assume if you got to this page you’ve worked that out already….. Most importantly- it is a different booking system to clubentries which is used for everything else. Please follow the Book Now tab for full information and available slots.
Where do I find the XC course? Enter Eglinton Park through the Irvine Road entrance (NOT the main entrance to the big car park by the visitor centre). Head straight on after the first 2 bends in the road with the speed bumps, and the parking field is located on the right just as you pass the house on the left. The main XC field (intermediate and open) is on the left further on the road , and the smaller XC field (nursery and novice, with some bigger fences) is further still along the road on the left, just before crossing the bridge. See google maps links on our website.
Is there parking? Yes, NARC has a separate field for parking opposite the entrance of the main XC field.
How do I get through the locked gates to the fields? A member of NARC committee will meet you at your booking time to open the padlocked gates for you.
Are there toilets? NARC does not have any toilets on site at the park. There are toilets are available a short walk away at the visitor centre, or there are plenty of bushes nearby.
Do you have to be a member of North Ayrshire Riding Club to book the course? No! Everyone is welcome, but members do enjoy discounted rates.
What is the time limit for the XC hire? Each booking gives exclusive use of the course for 2 hours. If you require longer, please contact us separately via the Contact Us form on our website.
Is there a limit to how many horses can use the course? For safety reasons we have a maximum of 4 horses on the course at a time. Please contact us for larger groups.
What type of fences are there? We have a large variety of fences, and are continually updating them as funds allow. These include: rolltops, barrels, ditches, banks, sleepers, log jumps, boxes, tyres, corners, a house, tiger traps and Sonya’s old garden furniture.
How big are the fences? Fences range from 40cm to 90/100, with a huge variety in between. Enough to keep everyone occupied from lead rein to Grassroots eventers!
Do you have a water jump? No. However if the rain continues like this, then we will easily be able to build one in the future.
Can under 18s use the course? Yes, but only under the supervision of a responsible adult, on foot.
Can I come to the XC course on my own? We ask that there is at least one person on foot (not riding) per hire session for safety reasons.
Is there a set course? This is a training course so feel free to jump anything you like! We have template courses planned out if you need some direction for joining fences together.
Why are there sheep in the field during my hire? They are our resident lawnmowers. Please be nice to them! And remember to shut the gates. They will keep out of your way.
Do I have to wear a body protector? Yes, as per our liability disclaimer form and advice from BRC. Riders choosing to ignore this do so at their own risk and NARC does not accept any liability for this.
Who do I contact if I have difficulties or queries during my hire? When your booking is confirmed you will be provided with contact details for the committee member who will be meeting you at the course, to open the gates, check disclaimer forms and hats/ body protectors.
What happens if I damage a fence during my hire? Don’t worry, these things happen. Please just let a member of committee know ASAP so we can set about fixing it.
Can I cancel or reschedule my booking for XC course hire? We understand horses, and their love of pulling shoes/ coming in with a leg hanging off/ eating something they shouldn’t. As a volunteer committee we may not be able to accommodate reschedules, but will try our best. If WE need to cancel your booking for any reason (usually bad weather), you will be offered a full refund or reschedule at no extra cost. No-shows will not be refunded.
Can we hire the XC course as a livery yard for the full season? YES! Contact us via our website or Facebook page for more info, special rates available.
